| ARCHAEOLOGY AND COASTAL CHANGE
2006
Hampshire and Wight Trust for Maritime Archaeology
The report presents case studies where past planning regimes have suffered from a poor understanding of the ongoing processes and natural trends that are shaping our coastal zone. Consequently, many coastal settlements are becoming vulnerable as the relationship between the land and sea evolves. An appraisal of archaeological and palaeo-environmental resources offers SCOPAC members a first step toward ‘wisdom of hindsight'. It leads to a position where coastal management decisions can be based on knowledge drawn from the long-term behavioural trends in the shifting boundaries of the sea.
