Future Research

In 2007 the Isle of Wight Centre for the Coastal Environment and the Channel Coast Observatory were commissioned by SCOPAC to undertake a review of past research activities.  The review included European, national and regional research as well as SCOPAC's own projects. 

The purpose of the review was to provide a prioritised research programme relevant to the central south coast of England.

Completion of these projects is dependent on future funding availability:

Project

  • Validation of new Met office wave data CCO / Southampton University £15,000 (Year 1), £10,000 (Year 2)

  • Climate change local scenarios study External consultants £35,000 (Year 1) and £35,000 (Year 2)

  • Saltmarsh evolution study CCO £15,000 (Year 1) and £10,000 (Year 2)

  • Design guidance for mixed beaches £30,000 (Year 1) and £30,000 (Year 2).

Projects for future consideration:

  • Bibliographic database revisions;

  • Digitisation of historical tidal records;

  • Performance of schemes and affordability;

  • Consultation on schemes;

  • Managed realignment;

  • Role of compensation;

  • Future of coast protection;

  • Soft cliffs;

  • Social justice issues. Top
