The Cobb and Monmouth Beach, Lyme Regis, 2001. Constructed upon a limestone reef, The Cobb has for several centuries provided shelter for the town's small harbour. It has, however, intercepted eastward shoreline drift (from left to right) leading to accretion of Monmouth Beach, the backshore of which has been reclaimed for use as a car park and for residential housing.
