Photo 10 (Return) Chesil Beach at West Bexington, 2001. A fine gravel beach fronts a narrow lowland strip and topography rises rapidly inland. It is thought that Holocene landward migration of the beach has resulted in the narrowing and infilling of a formerly continuous lagoon behind. Scattered remnants of the lagoon remain as isolated ponds – see upper left of photo. Eventually, the beach will migrate onto the rising topography and new cliffs are likely to form. | |
