Photo 4 (Return) Eastern face of Hengistbury Head, 2001. Cliffs formed within sandy units of the Barton Clay erode at slow rates by gullying and weathering. Their toes are protected from marine erosion by a rock revetment and beach accumulation induced by the rock groynes constructed in the late 1980s. The local authority has agreed to periodically clear talus from the cliffs to maintain key Barton Clay stratotype geological exposures. | |
