Photo 9 (Return) East Wittering and Bracklesham viewed eastward up the LT 1 drift pathway. Groynes intercept net eastward drift, (towards the camera,) on the gravel upper beach. Note the asymmetry of sediment fill in the groyne embayments. Intermittent revetments and earth banks protect the low-lying hinterland. Retreat was long established prior to widespread coastal defences, and would have provided some inputs of fresh sand and gravel together with larger quantities of fine sediments. | |
