Haslar Spit and the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour, 2001. The spit is defended by seawalls and relatively little loose beach sediment is available. Small quantities of sediment arriving from the southwest (from the right) are entrained by strong tidal currents generated at the inlet and preferentially flushed seaward.
