. Mackerel Cove, 2001. High cliffs are developed within Permian breccias and sandstones. Slow erosion contributes some sandy sediments to the shoreline and has resulted in the formation of a narrow shore platform as the cliff has retreated. Sedimentological evidence suggests that these sediments have contributed to sedimentation within the Teign estuary. Note how cliff recession has truncated a series of valleys running approximately at right angles to the shoreline.
