Teign estuary entrance and Ness Head , 2001. The growth of Denn spit (from right to left) has constricted the estuary inlet channel resulting in generation of rapid currents during tidal exchange. Sands have entered the estuary forming the Salty, a flood tidal delta. A corresponding series of banks and shoals also exists seaward of the inlet forming an ebb tidal delta. Complex circulations of sediment are driven by tidal currents in combination with waves from the open coast.
