Hengistbury Long Groyne viewed from the cliff top at Warren Hill, 1993. Constructed in 1938, the groyne has effectively intercepted drift, causing accretion of a wide beach backed by an expanding dune system. Erosion of the headland cliffs provides sand and some gravel that contributes to the accreting beach. Close to the groyne, the beach protects the cliff toes so that talus accumulates, the slope gradient is reduced and the cliff becomes more stable
