Photo 12 (Return) Mupe Bay, 2001. Along this western margin of the larger Warbarrow embayment marine erosion has cut across the full geological sequence from the Portland Stone (rocks in foreground), Purbeck Beds (cliffs in foreground), Wealden beds (low brownish cliffs) and into the Chalk that forms high cliffs backing the bay. Note the recent major cliff fall within the Chalk. Most debris delivered to the toe is eroded and removed in suspension, but small quantities of flint contribute to the Mupe Bay beach. Other falls have occurred in the past decade to the east of the recent fall, note that their toe debris fans are now almost completely removed by erosion. | |
