Photo 2 (Return) White Nothe cliff landslide complex 2001. Chalk and Greensand at the upper cliff overstep less competent Kimmeridge Clay strata of the lower cliff resulting in deep-seated landsliding. Parts of the landslide complex appear relic, but due to continuing toe erosion the ancient landslides are progressively re-activating. Note the Chalk debris being eroded from the toe which contains small quantities of flint gravel that contribute to the eastern part of Ringstead Bay beach seen in the left mid-distance. Residual boulder aprons on the foreshore are products of the toe erosion process. |
