Photo 6 (Return) Replenished gravel beach and offshore reefs within Ringstead Bay. The reefs dissipate wave energy and retain on the nearshore bed gravels from the beach that become drawn seawards by heavy storm wave action. Note the retaining rock groyne and the tendency of the beach to conceal geological exposures on the foreshore and at the toes of the low cliffs (compare to natural beach to the right). |
