View towards Dawlish, 2003. The seawall and Plymouth to Exeter Railway have been constructed along the cliff toe upon the former beach crest. The cessation of supply of cliff sediments appears to have resulted in depletion of the beach. Consequently, waves may strike directly against the seawall at high tide, creating a potential hazard to rail services during strong storms from the east or southeast.
