10 (Return) Seaview Duver and Nettlestone Point 20.09.98.
The open ground is a naturally infilled tidal inlet, now a freshwater
marsh and lagoon at risk of tidal flooding. It was protected naturally
by a small barrier type beach that became the foundation for construction
of the coastal road. In recent years the defences protecting the road
have deteriorated and a renovation scheme is planned for 2001. Drift on
the wide sandy foreshore is from east to west indicated by the distributions
of sediment accumulations trapped within the various groyned embayments.
Nettlestone Point occupied by the settlement of Seaview is composed of
comparatively resistant Bembridge Limestone and forms a partial barrier
to littoral drift from the south east.
