East Beach and eastern training pier at mouth of the River Arun, Littlehampton 2001. The shoreline is offset some 150m from its accreting western counterpart and has been stabilised by defences. Occasional intervals of south-eastward drift can cause drifting of sediment into the inlet channel. Normally, drift operates eastward and tends to slowly deplete the beach because inputs from the west are inhibited by the piers and the coastal offset.
