Ventnor Beach, 2001. A fine gravel pocket beach occupies the shoreline. The town has been constructed on a series of landslide terraces within the southern Undercliff. An esplanade protects the toes of toes of relic landslides, providing support to the slopes behind. Ground movements relate to high autumn/winter rainfall, but within Ventnor have generally been relatively slight, but on-going with resulting damage to land, property and services. Management has involved considerable research and monitoring enabling development of a Landslide Management Strategy, including engineering schemes and the provision of advice to local residents.
