Flood embankment faced by limestone armour, Prinstead, 2002. This shore has become increasingly exposed in recent decades following widespread dieback of protective Spartina marshes. This defence is an example of the increasingly robust constructions that will in future be required to address problems of sea-level rise and increased wave exposure where it is decided to hold the line.
