Thornham Point managed retreat site, 2002. In 1996, following a minor breach of an embankment the Chichester Harbour Conservancy purchased the 6-7 hectare site, raised and levelled the hinterland, made the breach permanent and undertook management to encourage the creation of new upper saltmarsh. Good habitat has developed rapidly at elevations between 1.5 and 2.5m O.D., indicating the strong potential for creation of mid-upper saltmarsh at selected sites.
