Erosion on the western shore of Hayling Island, 2002. The west facing shoreline has become especially exposed to wave action following die-back and near-complete loss of fronting Spartina saltmarshes. Erosion has cut back into the low cliffs of brickearth and plateau gravels. The narrow gravel beach is derived from gravels released from these eroding cliffs.
