Thorncombe Beacon landslide complex 2001. A high, steep cliff composed of Liassic sandstones and marls fails mainly by rockfalls. Sediments released accumulate on the foreshore forming lobes and boulder aprons that block drift. Pockets of gravel remain amongst the boulder aprons suggesting that a continuous beach formerly extended around the headland prior to suffering depletion in the 19th and 20th centuries.
