Hengistbury Long Groyne, 2001. The groyne has intercepted drift on the intertidal beach causing accretion to its west. Although it clearly operates as a barrier, the groyne's effect is partial for bypassing and sediment transfer to Christchurch Bay occurs. Sand and gravel overtop the groyne and it is considered that sand can also outflank it to seaward.
